Club Nights

NEWS: As of Monday 16.03.2020 it is with regret that BackgammonAyr weekly meetings have been cancelled for the time being due to the Corona virus pandemic. In the absence of face-to-face backgammon, we shall be trying to set up some online games/matches. If you are interested in playing backgammon, joining BackgammonAyr or playing online, please contact us for more information.

BackgammonAyr meet on Tuesdays at The Terrace in central Ayr located opposite Sports Direct and close to the Odeon cinema, the Burns Statue and close to the Ayr railway station. Start time is 7pm and we play for 2 hours or more. Attendees pay £1 per session which goes towards club expenses and the purchase of backgammon/tournament related materials such as precision dice and timer clocks.

If you fancy coming along to one of our forthcoming meetings please contact us to double check when the next meeting is.

Car Parking for The Terrace

I have had a few queries about where people can park when coming to BackgammonAyr at The Terrace, so here are a few ideas. Please note that parking arrangements can change (eg. free might become paid for), so it is your responsibility to ensure you are parked safely and legally.

  • Immediately opposite The Terrace is the Sports Direct shop which backs on to the car park that it shares with Matalan. This car park does attract a parking fee 24/7, though I can't be sure of the cost.
  • Just along the main road and opposite Cafe 51 and a kitchen shop is a side road,  Bellevue Street. During the daytime most of this street is residents' parking, but after 6pm there is more free parking on that street. Bellevue Street joins Beresford Lane, and again I believe there is some free parking slots amongst residents-only spaces.
  • In the opposite direction from The Terrace going towards the town there is Miller Road on the left, again with on-street parking.
  • Just around the corner to the right there is the Odeon and there are parking spaces immediately outside the cinema, again free after 6pm I am told.
  • In Parkhouse Street where it is a one-way system and a plethora or Estate Agents shops, there is metered car parking which I think is free after 6pm.
  • Though it seems further away, it is only a short distance to the council car park which sits alongside the Morrisons supermarket car park. As you turn off the roundabout on Castlehill Road into Morrisons there is a small turning on the left which takes you into a council car park sandwiched between the railway lines and the Morrisons car park. This space is also free after 6pm. If you park down the far end as close to The Market Inn as you can get, it's only a three minute walk to The Terrace.
  • Finally, if you have any issues (including limited mobility) which makes on-street parking difficult please contact me.
